DRAFT and PARTIAL List of Recommendations (Parts 1 and 2 Combined): This document contains the partial draft recommendations for the Neighborhood Advisory Committee to discuss during its meetings on October 23rd and November 20th. We, both the planners and the City still have changes that we anticipate making to this list, but the draft is being made available so members of the community have an opportunity to help us refine the working recommendations. November 20, 2008 Neighborhood Advisory Committee meeting summary: This document contains a detailed summary and list of attendees from the fifth meeting of the Neighborhood Advisory Committee.
Conceptual Drawings for the Intersection of Route 69 and Route 72: This document contains the drawings that were shared with the Neighborhood Advisory Committee on September 8, 2008. The file contains an initial set of conceptual drawings and ideas for the intersection of Routes 72 and 69. It illustrates the range of possible opportunities -- including changes to street geometry, intersection alignments, facade improvements, landscaping, and parking configurations. Click here to read the suggestions made by the Advisory Committee about these concepts, and click here to submit your comments directly to us.
Conceptual Drawings for the former Chic Miller property: These drawings were shared with the Neighborhood Advisory Committee on September 8, 2008. They show conceptual ideas for the redevelopment of the former Chic Miller auto dealership, located on east side of West Street. They provide possible configurations of the site given a mix of uses, demonstrate potential parking and vehicular options, and illustrate some possibilities to connect the site with the adjacent Family Center. Conceptual Drawings for the former IGA supermarket site: These drawings were shared with the Neighborhood Advisory Committee on September 8, 2008 to provide conceptual ideas for the former IGA Supermarket site, located on the north side of Divinity Street. They include possible configurations of the site given a mix of uses, demonstrate potential parking and vehicular options, and illustrate possibilities to connect the site with Muzzy Field and the adjacent residential neighborhoods. West End Neighborhood Pencil Sketches of Intersection of Route 69 and Route 72: These are two pencil sketches that were created by the Yale Urban Design Workshop providing a whole host of ideas for improvements to the intersection of Routes 72 and 69. Click here for the "before" image and click here for the "after" image. As you compare the before- and after- images, you'll see changes in the street geometry, realignment of the intersection, ideas for how an area suitable for outdoor dining and seating might be included, improvements to facades, elimination of overhead wires, and new street-level windows creating a sense of pedestrian and retail activity, among other changes. As you review these drawings, please understand that they are not definitive recommendations, but are intended to serve as a starting point for our discussion about recommended improvements and adjustments to this intersection.
West End Neighborhood Vision Statement: This is a near-final (if not final) version of the vision statement for the neighborhood based on the May 3rd Visioning Workshop, the June 12th Neighborhood Advisory Meeting and the feedback from community stakeholders. This vision statement is intended to describe the neighborhood, identify what distinguishes the West End and makes it different from other neighborhoods in Bristol, and to clearly state what we envision the neighborhood can look like and feel like twenty years from now.
